Pani Crook grew up living in homes with affordable utility bills built by Dennis Crook.

Pani
and Dennis Crook are devoted to teaching families and consumers across
the country how to have affordable utility bills. Dennis, originally a
commerical, master union carpenter and residential homebuilder began
researching designs and methods that reduce a building's energy demands
shortly after the “other” energy crisis of the 1970's. He is a speaker
and panelist on university and municipal conferences on energy
efficiency, sustainability, greenhouse gas reduction, and climate
change.
Their business, EcoBuilt Efficient Buildings, provides informational materials, audit, consulting and construction services.

Things you DON'T hear in the media
Rising energy bills are the silent culprit in the housing crisis.
Why you shouldn't use your attic as a living or storage area.
What salespeople recommend fixing first…but really should be last!
Food or heat…a choice millions of Americans must make each day.
How to know, just by looking at the outside of a building, if it's an energy guzzler.
Why energy conservation can't save enough energy and money.
Factors that make it hard to maintain a comfortable temperature inside your home.
Why doing your own home energy audit will save you money.
...
And much more
Consumers spend well over $200 billion each year just on electricity
Experts
predict massive electric rate increases as deregulated states pass on
increased electricity production costs to consumers. Pennsylvania is
bracing for an imminent 20% increase.
President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act calls for
the investment of $3.2 Billion in Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Projects.
According to Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu-
“These investmenst will save taxpayer dollars and create jobs in
communities around the world….The block grants are a major investment
in energy solutions that will strengthen America's economy…” The
funding will support energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits in
residential and commercial buildings. The goal is to reduce total
energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency.
Rising energy bills are creating a hidden mortgage crisis
Energy costs can equal or exceed a mortgage payment, creating a second,
hidden mortgage. This is fueling the mortgage crisis in the United
States. Consumers are getting hit on two fronts: rising mortgage costs
and soaring utility bills. They get by for a while by “robbing Peter to
pay Paul.” But what happens when both bills have to be paid?
Buildings consume 50% of the energy used in the United States .
Buildings
on the average also waste 50% of the energy they consume. Gaps, cracks
and holes, etc in buildings, when added together, can equal leaving a
window or door open 6” all year round. Un-insulated heating and air
conditioning ducts account for 30% of energy wasted in un-conditioned
attics and basements.
Pani and Dennis Crook
represent two generations of a privately owned business devoted to
teaching consumers across the country how to have affordable utility
bills
Dennis,
originally a commercial master union carpenter and residential home
builder began researching energy efficient construction shortly after
the “other” energy crisis of the 1970's. He has decades of experience
designing and building energy efficiently. He specialized in
environmental studies at Iowa State University , and researched the
U.K. 's Green housing market at the University of Wales . When he
returned from the U.K., he realized he needed to teach people how to
make changes on their own.
Pani
could be the only person of her generation who has been raised entirely
in an energy efficient environment. Having never heard her parents
discuss utility bills, she was in for a shock when she got her first
electric air conditioning bill at her own apartment. It was higher than
her parents paid for their 4100+ square foot home.
She
learned from them that health, comfort and cost weren't the only
benefits of energy efficient buildings. Cutting energy consumption has
a tremendous impact on the environment.
Pani
completed her marketing degree at West Chester University and works
with Dennis and Siti Crook at Ecouilt Efficient Buildings.

Pani, you said you know if a building is wasting energy just by looking at it from the outside. Please tell us how.
Wouldn't it be easier to have someone come to my building and tell me what's wrong?
